Have you noticed that vanilla extract prices have gone up significantly in the past couple years? For all you vanilla lovers, I have come up with the perfect solution, homemade vanilla extract! It is almost half the price of a store bought bottle and it tastes so much better.
Ingredients:
Glass airtight container
5 grade B vanilla beans
1 cup of 80 proof vodka or bourbon
Directions:
1. Pour vodka or bourbon in the glass container.
2. Cut vanilla beans long ways and place in the glass container. You may need to cut the vanilla beans in half to make sure that the whole bean is submerged in the alcohol.
3. Place at room temperature, somewhere with no direct sunlight, for two months before use. Shake the bottle approximately once a week.
